‘I Coulda Been a Pretender’, article in Slate.com

‘Where’s the coke?’, article in Solander magazine <pdf>
Published in the magazine of the Historical Novel Society, this article describe the early years of the soft drinks industry, particularly how the rise of soda drinks was linked to drug consumption amongst the middle classes. It discusses Vin Mariani, a now-forgotten ‘tonic’ wine, made from red wine and macerated coca leaves.
‘When Google Buys Me Dinner’, essay <pdf>
Written in response to John Battelle’s book SEARCH, about Google and search engines in general. Don’t know why I wrote it, really.
‘Pointless Sports’ pdf
This short story was written in 1993. Other readers have been less charitable. I don’t understand; I think it’s funny. Goes to show.
